UVA Rower Morini ’07 Named to Cav Futures Advisory Board
Valerie Morini, a 2007 UVA graduate, has joined the Cav Futures Advisory Board alongside a number of well-known UVA student-athletes and sports professionals. Morini, a member of the ACC champion Women’s Rowing team, is Director of Corporate & Investment Banking Enterprise Initiatives & ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Program Manager at Wells Fargo in Charlotte, N.C.
“As a former student-athlete, specifically in a non-revenue generating Olympic sport, I know firsthand what goes into representing the university beyond the race or game day: the hours, sweat, tears and commitment to meet or manage a ton of expectations,” Morini says. “It’s a job, and a very challenging one for these athletes who deserve to be able to represent themselves first, and have ownership and opportunities not only for their post-graduate futures — but in the now. Cav Futures is providing this inclusive NIL marketplace for our student-athletes to expand upon the foundation they have built for themselves, their teammates, and that we are collectively building for future generations of athletes.”
Morini has owned, built and managed numerous small businesses, including Pure Barre Charlottesville, MADabolic interval training centers in Charlottesville and Charleston, S.C., and others, including several consulting businesses. She is a partner in Epicure MV, a farm-to-table, sustainably operated Lebanese food catering business on Martha’s Vineyard with former UVA Women’s Rowing teammate Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli and family.
Prior to her current role at Wells Fargo, she built the company’s infrastructure support services organization from a five-person team to a more than 300-person group, setting the model for internal business and operational support across the company.
Morini graduated from UVA with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and foreign affairs, with both Dean’s List and All-ACC Academic Honor Roll accolades. After graduation, she worked with Virginia Athletics, managing select in-game promotions for football, basketball, lacrosse, swimming, and diving.
“We appreciate Valerie giving her time, resources, and experience to the Charlottesville community and beyond to support UVA student-athletes, help establish programming, and expand authentic alumni and business networks to build a stronger collective legacy for Virginia athletes,” said Lo Davis, executive director of Cav Futures.
Morini joins an Advisory Board that includes Ralph Sampson ’83, Brian Socolow ’90, Drew Fox ’94, Matt Schaub ’03, Dana Boyle ’14/’15, and Kyle Guy ‘19. UVA student-athletes Ron Carey ’90, Doug Duenkel ’92, Henry “Hank” M. Dudgeon, III ‘95, Matt Link ’97 (all football), Kimberly Moseley ’88 and Stephanie Garcia ’10/’12 (both track and field) serve on the Board of Directors.
